Tail gut is used to attach the tailpiece on to instruments of the violin family, and some viols. For a description of how to use tailgut and attach it to a tailpiece, please see the section on our website, "Tying Tailgut". . The tailgut in the range of diameters from 1.90mm to 2.20mm, those diameters appropriate for violin and violas, come in a 42" length, and will be enough length for eight or nine tailguts. The lengths are available in natural color. The tailgut in the range of 3.00mm - 3.20mm is appropriate for cello sized instruments and is available in a 12" single length. The tailgut in the range of 5.00mm - 5.20mm is intended for use large viols, such as the violone, and the contra bass and is available in a 16" length.
